The Cairns Chamber of Commerce is focussed on making it easier for local business to increase exposure, take advantage of networking opportunities, and access information and services that can increase business efficiency. As a key contributor to prosperity in the Cairns region, the Cairns Chamber acts as an advocate for the business community, a conduit for information and a promoter of Cairns’ position in the regional landscape.
Our members are at the centre of everything we do. From migration changes to rising electricity costs, the first quarter of 2018 has seen the Cairns Chamber represent the region in the best interests of the Cairns business community. 2018 has been a year of revitalisation for the Cairns Chamber of Commerce, with a range of new programs, initiatives and taskforces such as the reinvigorated and reloaded Cairns Young Chamber, Advancing Women in Business Programme, CBD Revitalisation Taskforce, Premium Traveller Development Taskforce, Itinerant Taskforce and our new membership structure, just to name a few.
The Cairns Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with JCU and the Office of Small Business have developed the Advancing Women in Business Programme. Advancing Women in Business is an 18 week development opportunity designed to increase confidence, skills and career growth for women through workshops, mentoring and networking events. The programme is designed to engage the FNQ business community to establish a network of business professionals as mentors who will support participants in their journey to achieving their professional goals.
The Premium Traveller Development Taskforce is an initiative that the Cairns Chamber of Commerce has been facilitating to assist in attracting a premium visitor market to our region, as additional contribution to the local economy. This will see a huge benefit to the aviation industry, as well as local business as a whole. Members of the taskforce are currently working on a marketing strategy to help assist in the process, with the last meeting held on Thursday 26 April.
This year, one of the most significant changes the Cairns Chamber has undertaken is the restructure of our membership levels. As of Wednesday 28 February 2018, the Cairns Chamber and Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) joined forces, offering all members reciprocal membership with both organisations. There are three packages available, each with a range of benefits designed to suit all business types and/or needs. Not only will the region get more business due to this exciting new partnership, but it will give a much stronger voice to Cairns businesses than ever before through advocacy, with our voice now having the ability to be heard on a local, state and federal level.
The Cairns Chamber is predominantly a member supported organisation. Your continued support and engagement is crucial to allow us to continue to promote local business, and to be the voice that grows the region for the benefits of us all. We encourage everyone to become a member of the Cairns Chamber and play an active role in the future of the Cairns local region.
